A few years ago we launched our Stamp Out Breast Cancer campaign. We are a small voice trying to help spread the message to our papercrafting sisters that early detection saves lives. Of course, raising awareness is a good thing and I am proud of our efforts in this regard, yet women are still dying of breast cancer every day and that needs to change!
According to Metup (www.metup.org), "In the last 40 years the Metastatic Breast Cancer death toll has not changed significantly. Nor has the mean survival rate of 3 years." This is unacceptable! These women are our sisters, mothers, friends & daughters!
Today, a friend shared this video and wow! I hope you will watch it and consider making a donation to one of the organizations listed here (iwantmorethanapinkribbon.com) to fund breast cancer research.
I'll be honest with you... after watching this video I had the feeling that our Stamp Out Breast Cancer campaign is completely irrelevant. It's been on my mind ever since.
Last night I showed the video to my girls. They were shocked and frustrated to learn that only 7% of research dollars are directed towards metastatic breast cancer research. They were terrible upset to see that a 37 year old mom is going to die unless this changes. "What can we do?" they asked. So I asked them what they thought we (not the global we... the girls & I) could do. Here's what they came up with:
1 - SHARE the video - we need to help get the word out
2 - Make a DONATION - the girls volunteered to add their weekly chore money (I love their generous hearts)
3 - Create or participate in a fundraising activity - my youngest daughter has a fundraising event at her school and she is going to share the video with her class, suggest they donate to one of the organizations listed on iwantmorethanapinkribbon.com and make some felt hair bows (using our fabulous bow dies, of course!) to sell to at the fundraiser.
4 - Make some cards using the Fight Like a Girl stamp set - These girls... they are so wise! They said everyone likes to make, give and receive cards and this brings people comfort and you know... they are right!
I hope that you will join us by taking ACTION this month. Share the video. Make a donation. Raise some funds. Make some cards. Let's do it!
I think this card fits today's post. I am hopeful that our efforts will make a difference!
The card above was inspired by this next card which was inspired by the changing leaves spotted while walking my daughter to school this morning. Inspiration is EVERYWHERE!
Enjoy this beautiful day!
Wow - sometimes you think we've come so far and yet there is a LONG way to go!! I love both of these cards...they are mind boggling wonderful!!
