Water coloring seems to be all the rage at the moment. Have you tried it? Can I share a secret with you? I'm not very good at water coloring. I can't seem to get the "flow" quite right. I really do love the look though. So soft & pretty!
Guess what? I've discovered an EASIER way to water coloring using A Muse Studio Splash! inks. Success every time!
Most people see our Splash! inks in their cute little spray bottles and think it's a misting product. Well... it is a great misting product. But... it's so much more! I've got a few fun Splash! techniques to share with you this week. The first is water coloring.
To water color using Splash inks, I use:
- Niji water brush pen
- Splash! inks
- Clear block
- bowl of water
Cardstock: You'll want to stamp your images first. I often use A Muse Studio cardstock with this technique and it works just fine but you can also use our water color paper too.
Ink: Archival black ink works great. I've also had success using A Muse Studio pigment inks and, of course, embossed images work great too.
To get started, you'll want to open your splash bottles and dab a few drops of color onto a clear block. Be sure to screw the top back on right away to avoid spills. Remember, Splash! ink is permanent and will stain your clothes.
Start by diluting your Splash! ink colors a bit with water - one or two drops only! Use the water brush pen to pick up the ink and color your image. If you wish to have darker areas, you'll want to use the full strength of the Splash! ink so add a few drops to your block and do not add water.
I find that the Splash! inks flow very easily. Allow for a little dry time and you add layers of color to add shading and color.
Here's a cute little candy package that we made at the Stamp & Scrap Art Show in Columbia SC last weekend. Everyone LOVED coloring with Splash!
Got questions? Post them below and I'll do my best to answer them. Please stop by tomorrow for more Splash! techniques.
Have a beautiful day!
I love to watercolor! These cards are so pretty! :)

So pretty! We watercolored with splash today at my Happiness Blooms February class. I used empty contact lens containers to safely hold small amounts of splash - easy to pass, hard to spill :) PS. Everyone walked away feeling like an artist!

Chris F, I am not sure what an empty contact lens container looks like but it sounds like a brilliant solution! I am keen on NO spillage! ;-)
Water coloring really does make you feel like an artist, doesn't it?!

That is a brilliant idea, Chris! I think they may even have those at the Dollar Store. *mental note* Thanks for the share.
