I love winter.
I love the snow.
I love mittens.
I do not love cold hands.
BUT I do love these cozy felt handwarmers!
These are a quick and easy gift to make and will give the recipient the gift of warm hands all winter long. Here's a quick and easy tutorial for you.
Supplies you'll need:
- Red A Muse Studio felt (a|s felt has 35% felt content and is ok for the microwave!)
- White A Muse Studio felt
- Scallop circle die (or plain)
- Snowflake Trio 2 die set
- Heat 'n bond
- Needle & red thread
- Flax seed (or rice)
Step 1 - cut out two matching circles using red felt
Step 2 - iron heat 'n bond onto white felt, die cut one snowflake (I used the largest snowflake die in the set)
Step 3 - Iron the snowflake onto one of the red circles
Note: when you iron the red felt it will appear darker for a few minutes while the felt is hot. Don't worry - It will change back ones it cools!
Step 4 - Hand stitch around the edge of the circle, leaving a 2" opening. Be sure your stitches close enough so that the flax seed won't fall through!
Step 5 - Fill the handwarmer with flax seed (or rice or a mixture of rice and flax seed)
Tip: Your handwarmers will smell lovely if you add some dried lavender!
Step 6 - Handstitch the the opening
That's it! Easy peasy! Pop them in the microwave for 30-45 seconds (depends on the strength of your microwave and how hot you like them!)
These make great stocking stuffers! They are easy to mass produce - I made 6 in about 30 minutes.
Let me know if you try this project.
Happy Holidays!
What a cute and useful idea! Thanks for sharing.
